Cathedral rejuvenation

Geraldton Anglican Cathedral is an iconic building listed on the State’s Register of Heritage Places because of its aesthetic, historical and social value. At the time it was built, the Cathedral was regarded as an architectural marvel and a local tourist attraction. Today it’s a largely unknown community asset.

Stage one

The restoration of the Cathedral is Phase One of the Cathedral Precinct Redevelopment. The roof of the Cathedral is asbestos cement and it is in a poor state of repair. Several attempts to repair the aging roof have failed. Concrete cancer has made the walls brittle and external damage has become a safety issue. The restoration of our iconic building is now urgent. Phase One includes;

  • Replace the Cathedral roof and restore those parts of the building that have concrete cancer.

  • Restore the Cathedral ceiling and light fittings.

  • Upgrade the Cathedral electrics, sound and audio visual systems.

  • Complete the acoustics project, including installing acoustic curtains.

Urgent need: $750 000

Stage Two

A Precinct Redevelopment Master Plan has been developed which includes:

  • New church hall

  • Redevelop the carpark for safe church and community use

  • Redevelop the existing hall into a family support centre

  • New landscaping including The Bible Garden of Western Australia

  • Accommodation for Dean, Community Chaplain and Caretaker

The goal is to create a central hub for the whole church to share the gospel with all nations.
